A few years back I changed my email sign off from ‘Regards’ to ‘Kind Regards’. Having seen someone else sign off this way it seemed to me a much well, kinder, thing to wish people and it struck me that proposing more kindness in the world was a positive thing. Which led me to reflect again recently: What’s in a sign-off?
For regular readers of Weekly Wisdom, you’ll note that each week we use a different sign-off. It’s just one more opportunity for us to change up the wishes we have for all of you wonderful women at midlife.
Given how many times a day we all sign-off, it seems that this is often a missed opportunity for us to share what we wish for Beloveds and those with whom we interact. It’s also another way we reinforce our brand and who we are in the world.
So I’ve been doing a bit of investigating of some of the most creative people around and come across a few sign-offs with a view to stimulating your thinking about yours.
While some of the following may not be appropriate for all recipients of your correspondence, please use the following as a jumping off pint as you consider what it is you genuinely hope for others:
- Best/Warm/Kind Wishes/Regards
- Keep it Simple (see www.theminimalists.com)
- May your week be prolific, brilliant and healthy (see www.accidentalcreative.com)
- Red beans and Ricely Yours or Am ricely and chickenly yours – Louis Armstrong
- Love, licks and lollipops
- Peace, love and bananas
- Don’t go changing
- Subversive Greetings
- Be well, do good deeds, keep in touch
- Big hugs
- Much love and laughter
- Many thanks
- Have a great day/week/life/Thursday
- Live long and prosper
- Wishing you continued success
- Arohanui (broadly translated – ‘big love’ in Maori)
Or you can use a quote – as one of my dear friends ends: ‘Let us live in such a way that when we die, our love will survive and continue to grow.’ Michael Leunig
Equally there’s usually an untapped opportunity in the sign-off that comes with devices such as ‘Sent from my iPhone or iPad’ e.g. ‘Sent by carrier pigeon’
So, while it’s a small thing to consider, it’s also potentially a missed opportunity to share your wish for abundance with the world.
What’s your life-affirming and/or unique sign-off?
